The Pharmaceuticals & Medical Supplies Administration and Maintenance Case Team is the logistical backbone of the Dire Dawa Health Bureau. We ensure that all public health facilities across the region are continuously equipped with safe, effective, and high-quality essential medicines, medical equipment, and supplies required for seamless healthcare delivery.
Our Mandate
Our mandate is to guarantee uninterrupted availability of pharmaceuticals and medical technologies while ensuring their rational use, proper storage, and continuous maintenance. We manage the regional supply chain, from procurement planning and inventory control to distribution and equipment servicing, adhering strictly to national healthcare standards.

Key Functions & Services
To achieve our mandate, the Case Team oversees several specialized operational areas:
Procurement & Inventory Management
Coordinates the forecasting, procurement, and warehousing of medical commodities. We utilize digital logistics management systems to track stock levels, monitor expiration dates, and prevent stockouts across all health facilities.
Storage & Cold Chain Management
Ensures optimal storage conditions for all medical supplies. We rigorously monitor cold chain facilities to preserve the efficacy of vaccines, insulin, and other temperature-sensitive biological products from the central warehouse to the point of care.
Rational Drug Use & Pharmaco-vigilance
Promotes evidence-based prescribing and dispensing practices. We monitor adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and ensure that patients receive the correct medication, in the right dosage, for the appropriate duration.
Medical Equipment Maintenance
Provides preventive and corrective maintenance for vital medical equipment, such as anesthesia machines, patient monitors, and laboratory analyzers, ensuring accurate diagnostics and safe patient care.

Mr. Dawit Girmay
Mr. Dawit Girmay is a licensed pharmacist and supply chain management specialist with over 12 years of experience in public health logistics. He has played a pivotal role in modernizing the region's medical inventory systems and strengthening cold chain infrastructure.
Holding a Master's degree in Pharmaco-economics and Health Logistics, Mr. Dawit is dedicated to ensuring that no patient in Dire Dawa is denied care due to a lack of essential medicines or functioning equipment.
