The Health Promotion & Disease Prevention Directorate is the frontline defense for public health in the Dire Dawa Administration. We are dedicated to designing, coordinating, and executing public health interventions that prevent disease and promote wellness across all kebeles. By bridging the gap between clinical healthcare facilities and the daily lives of residents, we strive to stop illnesses before they start.
Our Mandate
The primary mandate of the directorate is to empower citizens through proactive community education, robust hygiene standards, and targeted preventive programs. Through health extension workers, community volunteers, and strategic partnerships, we ensure that vital health information and preventive resources reach every household.
Strategic Objectives
- Increase community awareness on preventive health practices and healthy lifestyles.
- Control and prevent communicable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria.
- Ensure food safety, hygiene, and environmental health standards are met regionally.
- Strengthen the Health Extension Program (HEP) at the kebele level.
